Course overview:This course is an advanced level course for existing holders of PCN Level 2 welding inspector. The course is an advanced treatment of welding inspection technology including man management aspects as well as an in-depth analysis of welding inspection technology.

Course Content:

Function and responsibilities of a  welding inspector Level 3; analysis of imperfections in welds; welding symbol interpretation; interpretation of  fabrication documentation including WPS’s. WPQR’s material certification, NDT reports etc; qualification and certification procedures of personnel; principles of supervision planning, organisation and auditing; supervisory case studies; interpretation of fractured surfaces; practice in typical examination questions; continuous course assessments.

Objectives:

  • to gain and in-depth knowledge and understanding  of welding inspection, fabrication and quality control requirements
  • to be able to assess the validity of fabrication documentation including welding procedure specifications, welding procedure qualification records, NDT reports etc.
  •  to assess, scrutinise and correct inspection reports
  • to be able to prioritise, recognise and establish the origins of weld imperfections
  • to have a greater understanding of welding processes and their control
  • to have a greater understanding of materials and their response to welding
  • to have a greater understanding of codes of practice and their requirements
  • to be able to assess and interpret features of fracture surface of weld failures and prepare detailed reports
  • to be able to plan, organise and supervise the effective use of welding inspectors and NDT personnel
  • to be able to conduct pre-, during and post welding audits to EN ISO 3834 requirements
  • to be in a position to pass the relevant PCN Level 3 examination

Suitable for: Experienced welding inspectors and quality control staff, especially those who are proceeding to the Welding Inspector Level 3 examination. It is essential that course members have a knowledge of the subjects covered in the course Welding Inspector Level 2 before joining this course.

It is the responsibility of the examination candidates to either hold PCN Welding Inspector Level 2 or consider attending the PCN Welding Inspector Level 2 course and examination prior to attending this course/examination.
