Course overview: This course is based on the key technical areas of the requirements of EN ISO 3834 – Quality Requirements in Welding and EN ISO 14731 Welding Coordination personnel. It is specifically aimed at all engineering personnel who require a broad technical knowledge of welding technology and its application as a basis for understating the key technical implications of the Eurocode EN 1090 - Execution of steel and aluminium structures.
Course content:
- Welding process technology: including
welding definitions & terminology; welding processes
and consumable features; selecting welding processes;
edge preparations & methods of preparation.
- Materials and weldability: Weldability
concepts in steels and stainless steels; preheat,
heat input and PWHT requirements; cracking in welded
joints;
- Welding designs aspects: including
joint design, causes of fatigue and brittle fracture
in welded joints.
- Fabrication and Quality: including
QA/QC Inspection in welding, codes and standards;
weld imperfections types and allowances; NDT; case
studies.
Course outcomes:
On completion of the course you will be able to:
- Understand the language of welding.
- Understand various welding processes types and
how to select a welding process for an application.
- Correctly identify welding process types and appreciate
advantages and limitations of different welding processes
- Understand weldability concepts of different steels
and stainless steels
- Understand the metallurgical effects of welding
parameters on a welded joint
- Understand the causes and avoidance of cracking
in welding joints.
- Understand details of joint designs in welding
- Understand causes and avoidance of fatigue and
brittle fracture.
- Appreciate the different types of non destructive
testing methods, their ability to find weld defects
and their application.
